Professional Development Opportunity: Project Management

The Nova Scotia Chapter of the Canadian Evaluation Society invites you to participate in a “Project Management” workshop, facilitated by Jim Pyra.

Project management spans a number of “knowledge areas” as described by the Project Management Institute including scope management, resource management, schedule and budget management, risk and issue management. Together with communications and fundamentally “getting stuff done” within projects to advance the overall organizational goals and objectives, there are a lot of details that can sometimes seem like a challenge to control when team members really want to work within the context of what the projects are trying to achieve. Having a geographically dispersed team adds further challenge. Too often training and tools for project management focus upon examples from the construction and software development domains, making it hard to understand how to apply best practices to work like evaluation that is more about people and data than drying times for concrete.

This interactive professional development session will provide you with:

-a grounding in project management fundamentals
-an opportunity to work through examples specific to evaluation
-best practices, practical tools and takeaways that you can start using immediately to better control your projects

Jim Pyra has 30 years of technical, management, and staff development experience. Jim has successfully pursued, negotiated, delivered and managed portfolios of projects for a variety of public and private sector clients in the communications, healthcare, defence, and business domains. He has managed projects that vary widely in breadth and scope, from small, one person projects for non-profit agencies to multi-year, multi-million dollar projects with internationally distributed teams for government and private industry clients.
