Project Manager- Evaluating Impact of Opt-Out in Canada

Nova Scotia Health Authority provides health services to Nova Scotians and some specialized services to Maritimers and Atlantic Canadians. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community-based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.
The Project Manager is responsible for the operational management and development coordination of the Evaluating the Impact of Opt-Out Legislation in Canada Research Program (Opt-Out Project). The Project Manager will report directly to the NSHAVP Research and Innovation and is responsible for program implementation, including: recruitment, providing support for clinicians, planning and execution of interdisciplinary workshops, research, reporting, and providing database management.
- Assists in all aspects of project development and administration
- Coordinates implementation and management of the Opt-Out Project and its working groups within Nova Scotia and the national collaborators and partners
- Act as liaison between the Out-Out Project Steering Committee and the working groups
- Manage budget and prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports as required by the funding agency
- Manages budget preparation for workshops and related activities of the Opt-Out Project
- Prepares scientifically and technically accurate protocols and other documents for submission to the appropriate Research Ethics Board (REB) for study/project approval and closure where necessary
- Develops consent form in consultation with REB where necessary
- Maintains communication with REB throughout studies related to the Opt-Out Project
- Participates in relevant Steering Committee and Working Group calls and attends various hospital rounds and community meetings with either the Co-Chair or delegate both in Nova Scotia Health Authority and other districts as required
- Oversees the management and development of project team
- Participants in relevant calls with the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program and Canadian Blood Services to discuss and present updates on the Opt-Out Project
- Plans, develops and coordinates projects in consultation with key stakeholders
- Leads the coordination and production of regular progress and financial reports
- Educates and updates stakeholders on study/project protocols
- Confers with Steering Committee and funding sources on project/study progress, compliance and interpretation
- Manages study budgets in conjunction with project Steering Committee and NSHA Research and Innovation by preparing, administering and monitoring budgets
- Monitors project expenditures with detailed reconciliation of monthly statements
- Determines human, material and fiscal resources required to fulfil protocol in conjunction with the Co-Chairs
- Manages and maintains the Opt-Out Project communication and updates to relevant partners
- Creates databases, spreadsheets and retrieves data
- Enters and summarizes data and using database and/or spreadsheets
- Accesses clinical and routine databases
- Maintains, stores and retrieves study documentation
- Degree or diploma in a related health profession or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be accepted
- Minimum of two years experience in the relevant health profession if appropriate
- Experience in database management
- Previous program management experience is an asset
- Previous research experience is an asset
- An understanding of the organ donation and transplantation programs across the province is an asset
- Strong/Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Strong report writing skills
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Effective research and analytical thinking skills
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and rapport-building skills
- Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Knowledge and experience with primary health care and chronic disease management
- Ability to travel provincially and nationally on a regular basis
- Available occasionally on evenings and weekends
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, email and internet
- Proficiency in specialized technology and/or software programs related to ongoing research or quality improvement initiatives
- Familiarity with health records
Travel within Nova Scotia and across Canada may be required for meeting and event attendance.
This position will be centrally located at the Nova Scotia Health Authority, Central Zone,
Access to a reliable method of transportation may be required.
HOURS OF WORK
Long Term Assignment, Full-time, 75 Hours Biweekly.
Approximate start date of January 6, 2020 and expected end date of January 6, 2023 (up to 3 years).
