The Canadian Evaluation Society is a national not-for-profit organization that has members in every province and territory in Canada.  Chapters offer services such as resource networks and professional development activities.  The National Council is composed of an executive and representatives from each chapter across the country.  Volunteers are the heart of this organization.  CES has some 1,750 individual Canadian members and student members, as well as 103 international members and 71 libraries.

One of the major activities of the CES is its annual conference which is typically held each Spring.  The conference provides an opportunity for fun, networking and professional development.  The CES 2014 conference will be held in Ottawa from Sunday, June 15th to Wednesday, June 18, 2014. As CES looks towards our thirty-fifth conference we will showcase how evaluation practice and our evaluation community has evolved by reaching across theoretical, cultural and geographical boundaries.  The contributions of Canadian evaluators to the development of our own body of knowledge, as well as in mentoring others interested in developing an evaluation culture have been recognized around the world. Conference strands include Canadian Contributions to Evaluation Research and Theory, Interdisciplinary and International Evaluation Methods and Learning from Each Other – Evaluation Practice Across Sectors and Regions. We hope to see you there!

Student Involvement:
CES fosters the student learning experience in a number of ways; a key service to students  is hosting an annual Case Competition each year at our annual conference.  Students from all disciplines and all levels of study are welcome to participate.

Professional Development:
CES has developed standardized course content  called Essential Skills Series which is offered through local Chapters across Canada.  CES also offers a series of on-line learning events that take place throughout the year.

Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation:
The Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation is a valued service to CES members.  It is published three times a year and it seeks to promote the theory and practice of program evaluation in Canada.  Members and non-members alike can access articles via the CES website!

CES Professional Designations Program:
CES as the professional order for Evaluation in Canada, seeks to contribute to the professionalization of evaluation, and the CES Credentialed Evaluator (CE) designation is designed to define, recognize and promote the practice of ethical, high quality and competent evaluation in Canada through a program for professional designations.  The designation means that the holder has provided evidence of the education and experience required by the CES to be a competent evaluator.  There are over 200 CE’s in Canada.
